My Spanish Sister

On August 3, we met our Spanish sister. My family and I were chosen to be part of the International Program for St. Brendan High School to host a student from Spain to live with us for three months. We did not know who we would be getting or how she would be. We met Blanca and knew she was perfect for our family! We let her know we were a little crazy and she said, "I am crazy too!" We were so blessed to have her and our lives changed forever because we really do have another sister. During this time together we learned from her and she learned from us. We introduced her to Cuban food, crazy kareoke, and midnight signing and dancing at our home. We took her to Key West, Disney, and New York. We laughed, we cried, and shared so much. We were a family. The hardest part of having Blanca with us was saying good-bye.

We were fortunate to visit Spain in March of 2016. We stayed with Blanca and met her awesome family. It felt like we had known them all our lives. They made us feel very welcome. They showed us all around Madrid. We visited John Henry Newman, their school. We also visited Toledo. I know I now have family in Madrid. I miss them all very much. We are hoping to have Blanca's brother, Pablo, join us for the program when he is a sophomore.
